A perfect end to a busy day in the relaxed atmosphere of the Theatre's Cafe Bar.
Following on from Friday’s Late Night Festival Club, Saturday offers more music and song from local artists plus those from further afield to create a mix of traditional, original and folk, swing pop. A lively night is promised.
Local and well known in Beverley is Phil Simpson a popular singer/songwriter. He performs an entertaining mix of original and interpreted material influenced by British Folk and Americana/Canadiana. Most frequently seen playing fiddle and melodeon in folk sessions around the area, or (not seen) behind the scenes in his music industry day job, this is a rare solo appearance by Phil and we’re delighted to see him at the festival.
Fresh from Saturday’s Horizon Stage comes The Hop, an exciting new trio recently graduated from the folk degree course at Newcastle University. They have a plethora of original tunes in which their instrumental versatility allows the band to explore a wide soundscape that maintains their traditional roots with an innovative flair. Not only do they play multiple instruments, but their infectious presence onstage is increased by the use of electric guitar and synthesizers that make for a compelling and complex performance. They bring a new perspective to the folk tradition, with music that can appeal to all ages.
Finally from down the road in Hull comes Moon Moth, a folk-swing-pop four piece band featuring acoustic guitar, sax, ukulele bass, cahon and vocal harmonies. Their songs are inspired by love, travel, adventure. Originally a duo which toured throughout Spain and New Zealand, they became a 4 piece band in 2022. In 2024 they performed at the Sledmere Tribfest on the Originals Stage where they have been asked to return in 2025, at Hull Trinity Live, and The New Adelphi in Hull.
It promises to be an action packed evening.
